The Situation: A Team Member Who Creates Conflict

Read this scenario. It might feel familiar.

📋 Scenario

You manage a team. One of your team members — let’s call her “S” — is skilled and kind as a person, but she creates conflict out of nowhere. She takes things personally, believes people are trying to hurt her, and turns small issues into big dramas. She’s slow with her work and lets her emotions drive her behavior. You don’t want to fire her — she has valuable skills and is a good person. But her behavior is damaging the team’s effectiveness.

Think before we start: Have you ever worked with someone difficult? What did you try? What didn’t work?

Quick Self-Check

Which of these thoughts have you had about a difficult team member? Check all that apply.
